For that matter, it tends to plague all language-learning systems. The system that I used back in high school tended to be slow and drawn out, with the phrases being spoken in a strange accent. That's why I was so pleasantly surprised with the First German Reader set. The book's text is relatively natural, and so is the speech. The audio tracks are free from the publisher's website, which I thought was a nice touch.
Most of the systems that I've used in the past contained cassette tapes or compact discs that were intended to played alongside the text. Having the audio tracks as computer files is quite helpful. After all, if I lost one, I could always just download it again instead of having to go searching for a CD. The "Reader" also has a few other nice touches. For instance, the vocabulary lists that start the chapters are a helpful reference. The stories actually contain a few realistic technical references that many resources leave out.
