Grundriss der iranischen Philologie: Band I. Abteilung 2 (German Edition) ReviewThis work in two volumes, written mostly in German, was published over the years 1895-1901. Volume one contained two parts, and this Elibron reprint has put each part in a separate volume. Elibron is to be congratulated for presenting a good quality, economical reproduction of this otherwise hard-to-find work. They have photoreduced the original. While this has the disadvantage of making none-too-large type even smaller, it has the advantage of making the book printable at a low cost, and it is still quite legible.Vol. 1, Part 2 contains five essays of varying length, all in German. The titles, translated into English, are: "New Persian Written Language," by Paul Horn, "The Language of the Afghans," by Wilhelm Geiger, "The Language of the Baluchis," by W. Geiger, "The Language of the Kurds," by Albert Socin, and "Smaller Dialects and Dialect Groups," by W. Geiger. This part also contains extremely useful indexes for both parts of vol. 1: Authors; Subjects; Words and Forms.
Finally, this Elibron edition includes an addendum (in German) not included with the original edition of vol. 1: "The Language of the Ossetians," by Wsewolod Miller (dated 1903). This addendum contains an Ossetian word index that even includes German glosses.
