These two authors address a huge issue for most international students who want to find an English language school specially to prepare for attending college or university in the USA. As I searched language schools on the internet, I struggled to find the right school because websites, pamphlets and brochures from language schools seemed to contain a lot of persuasive information, often more advertisement than useful facts to get students to come to their school.

In this book, however, knowledge of the topic clearly comes from experience in academia and the business of education and these authors strong academic backgrounds support the truth of the treasure chest of useful information they present. Dr. Daniel S, Janik is Director of American College and University Studies at Intercultural Communications College(ICC) in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. He has bachelor, master, medical and doctoral degrees from American and European universities. He has published two authoritative books on effective English Second Language (ESL) learning. The other author, Mr. Joel Weaver, works as Exective Director of ICC. He serves on numerous professional ESL boards and is past Chair of Association of International Educators Hawaii-Pacific District where he promotes quality education and the welfare of international students before and after studying in the USA. Mr. Weaver has a master degree in English as a second language from University of Hawaii at Manoa.
The book falls conveniently into eight parts. Part 1 present an English Version of the work. Part 2-Photo Memories contains 20 black and white photographs of students at ICC. Part 3-Each seven chapters including Introduction, Asking the Right Questions, Academic Quality, Location, Campus Facilities and Special Quality Indicators, Important Details, and Getting More Information. Parts 4 though 8 present the instruction work in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish and German.
The authors explain American-style ESL education using a question and answer format. All but a few arguments include easy to find internet sources, some obviously come from the authors, and their students' experiences. The authors use their language school, ICC, extensively as an examples.
Books written in this style can become info commercials. This one, however, presents the information so sensibly - so reasonably - that while it sometimes has that feel, it never crosses over from non fiction to fiction, an important attribute for international students unacquainted with American "advertising."
In summary, "How to Choose The BEST English Language School in the USA" contains important information for international students who plan to study in the USA, and provides an easy template for them to ask key questions directly to American ESL schools. This approach to choosing an English language school can also be used investigate American colleges and universities. As two authors state on page 9, "We know that choosing the best language school is probably the most important decision in your life right now. That's why we wrote this book." They did their part. I did my part by buying a copy and using it to find the best English Language School in the USA for me. Now it's your turn : but it, read it, use it, and enjoy studying in the USA!
