German Conversation Demystified with Two Audio CDs ReviewGerman Conversation DeMystified is a perfect companion to Ed Swick's grammar book: German Demystified. I would recommend you purchase the grammar book first, study it for half a year, and then buy this book, because grammar is only reviewed here - it is not explained in great detail. The first book takes care of that. That said, this book is designed to help you "get around" situations you will encounter while visiting Germany: shopping, dining out, traveling by train, etc. It has one or two silly examples (help with a broken-down car?????), but the useful exercises far outweigh the needless ones. Don't expect this book to transform you into a fluently speaking German native. It won't. That takes years of practice. Swick's book teaches the basics of "spoken" German sentence structure.
The 2 CDs are very helpful. I ripped them onto my desktop and play them over and over to test my comprehension skills. You can supplement your learning with this free online website: Forvo.com. It is a language website that stores thousands of spoken German words.
