Famous Faces ReviewMy 2011 copy of 'Famous Faces' has a cat with wistful green eyes on the cover, who is a dead ringer for Audrey Hepburn in her role as Holly Golightly. Within this book's super-sized, 95 pages, over 40 pets are photo-shopped to resemble celebrities both living and dead, BUT none of them are identified. As the text rather coyly puts it (no doubt in hopes of placating the legal community):"These are real pets, not real celebrities. The well-known individuals have not had any involvement in the creation of the images and they have not approved them, nor has their approval been sought for the publication of these images."
You have to guess who each pet-turned-celebrity is supposed to be (there is no key at the back of the book, either.) This is what makes "Famous Faces" so much fun. I trotted it out when company came over, and we attempted to guess which celebrity the dog, cat, hamster, or other unidentifiable rodent was made up to resemble. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard, by the time we were finished.
Some of the photos are obvious: a spaniel Charlie Chaplin; a 900-year-old Sphinx cat wielding a green light sabre, who appears to be saying: "No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try;" and my favorite--a jewelry-laden Mastiff who is the spitting image of Mr. T.
Other photographs are not so obvious. I tentatively identified a couple of dogs as Dame Margaret Thatcher, but was rudely voted down by the other contestants. There is a red-wigged rodent with a lightning bolt painted between his eyes, who must be a super hero, but which one? There are oodles of pop singers that readers forty years my junior will probably instantly recognize. I'm 90% sure the fez-topped rodent is King Farouk.
The miniscule amount of text is repeated in English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish. You will have lots of fun with 'Famous Faces,' whether as a party ice-breaker, or as a gift for your favorite celebrity-watcher.
