The Best Place for Garbage: The Essential Guide to Recyling with Composting Worms ReviewMy husband and I decided to get composting worms about three years ago. We read the famous book by worm pioneer Mary Appelhof and did other research online, but when the worms came, we still had a lot of questions that were unanswered. Our worms didn't eat fast enough to keep up with our households production of orange peels and other refuse. Despite what Appelhof's book said, we still have to compost. Plus, we were stressed about keeping the humidity exactly right.
In the end, our worms lived, but I wish I had read this book before we started our adventure. This book tells you absolutely everything you need to know about owning composting worms. The author starts at the very beginning, with how to build your own containers, or what to buy if you get them commerically (as we did - because we didn't know better), and goes on to explain how to buy your first batch of worms and how to care for them. She is passionate about worms and recycling. Very passionate. Throughout the book, you can tell that she really cares about her readers and she wants them to be succcessful with worms without having to work too hard to get there. Her writing style is entertaining and her enthusiasm is contagious. Also, she's really funny.
I'm going to gift this book to people who want to raise worms. I may even suggest it to my library (that's where we got the Appelhof book). It's leaps and bounds more informative than anything else I've read about worms. And fun reading.
